Web Developer - Marketing

Duties:

St. Charles Community College welcomes qualified applicants to apply for the full-time position of Web Developer Marketing. The Web Developer will ensure that the college's websites (Intranet, Internet) continue to evolve into effective, attractive, up-to-date, accurate, and user-friendly tools for communication, learning, technology, and marketing.  This position is the college's main link to the day-to-day functionality and operation of the website including working with all units and divisions to maintain, update and make suggestions for change.

Other duties:

  • Develops and maintains a responsive website, coding in HTML5, XHTML and CSS3, following W3C specifications; programming using jQuery, JavaScript, and other common web development languages.
  • Develops and designs Web layout, interface and navigation, convert Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop documents into functional Intranet and Internet Web pages, collaborating with the Marketing Director and MAC graphic designers on overall look of website.
  • Reviews Web pages that are submitted for publishing for adherence to SCC style guidelines; publish pages; scan, create and modify graphic images for use on Web pages.
  • Develops Web applications, templates, and improves Web processes through programming.
  • Works successfully as a member of a team of communicators in MAC Department and among other campus professionals to share information and develop ideas and projects involving the college website.
  • Works with IT and other departments on collaborative college-wide website projects involving software installation, directory creation, scripting, and interactive programming.
  • Assists Director of Marketing to determine digital advertising strategies and avenues.
  • Manages and oversees enrollment email campaigns; includes, Crystal Reports, purchasing lists, maintaining lists and removing duplicate data, collaboration with Director of Marketing, and Marketing Specialist on messaging and tracking campaign success.
  • Manages access to the content management system through setting permissions.
  • Develops project plans for Web projects and assign tasks as necessary to outside contractors, Portal/Web programmer and/or Website Specialist; Responds to questions and check finished work.
  • Serves on college committees addressing technology and the Web; attends regular meetings with the Director of Marketing.
  • Oversees, trains and assigns Web duties to Website Specialist.
  • Assists faculty and staff with composing Web pages, including how to import photos and art and transfer their files to the Web server, periodically provide demonstrations to introduce new products, conduct workshops/training on Web page creation and design and provide general education on use of SCC website.
  • Reviews existing Web copy to determine whether updates are needed; make periodic reports to Director of Marketing including suggestions on need for changes, updates, or innovations in the design and operation of the websites.
  • Works with Institutional Research Department to provide admissions application and/or enrollment reports that will support marketing strategy development.
  • Establishes good working relationships with individuals and departments across campus to obtain updated information for Web pages throughout the college's site.
  • Provides statistical reports, biannually, based on website log information to the Director of Marketing.
  • Builds and maintains SCC blogs.
  • Writes training materials for training classes and workshops.
  • Continues to upgrade skills to stay abreast of the latest Web technology and standards.
  • Oversee, train and assign Web duties to Website Specialist.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or two or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills required include coding in HTML5, XHTML, and CSS3, following W3C specifications with a responsive design approach; programming using jQuery, JavaScript, and other common web development languages. Experience using Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and other common web development tools is expected.  Also, must have a good understanding of Web infrastructure and server-side languages such as PHP. Thorough understanding of marketing strategies required, especially how it relates to website and online marketing. Other skills preferred, but not required, include Velocity, Backbone.js, mobile Web application development, and graphic design skills.
