St. Charles Community College is located just west of St. Louis, in the heart of growing St. Charles County. At St. Charles Community College, we have a passion for student success. We are seeking a full-time, Police Sergeant, who is responsible for the Safety and Security of all persons and property at the College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Enforce all local and state laws, as well as college policies. Act as the first point of contact when a crime occurs on the College campus.
  • Perform supervisory duties by issuing out work assignments, resolving problems, handling emergency situations, and disciplinary problems.
  • Ensure officers are performing all job duties as assigned. Follow-up with the officers throughout the day to ensure duties are being performed by doing spot checks as needed.
  • Ensure all Incident Reports are completed in the Omnigo incident report system and review them for accuracy prior to the reports being submitted for final approval.
  • Assist with the coordination of training programs by scheduling events, reserving training rooms, contacting speakers as needed, and ensuring all technology is scheduled per speaker's request.
  • Assist with training and instructing police department personnel, and ensure that all police officers meet Missouri State licensing requirements.
  • Assist in the development and updating of the police department's policies & procedures.
  • Assist with the training of Campus Services employees in aspects of the Emergency Preparedness & Safety Plan.
  • Monitor building security; observe behavior and conduct; and observe and correct, or report safety-related hazards and violations.
  • Monitor & report violations of College policies/regulations to the appropriate individual; communicate with local law enforcement agencies as required.
  • Provide assistance in the event of an emergency or natural disaster, and first aid assistance as needed for students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
  • Assist in the scheduling of shifts for all police department personnel, monitoring of time sheets & overtime, and maintenance of all shift records.
  • The incumbent will need to become certified in the use of the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES).
  • The incumbent will need to have a working knowledge of the college's emergency public address system as well as the text message notification system.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of eight years' experience employed as a full-time POST certified peace officer is required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent, and a graduate of a POST certified police academy with a minimum of a "Class A" certification from the Missouri Department of Public Safety is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age. Must be able to read, write reports, and maintain logs.
  • Must have knowledge of law enforcement techniques; ability to work with the public and make sound decisions, and take appropriate action quickly; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience in law enforcement is preferred.
