Mechanic/Maintenance Technician

SUMMARY

Performs preventive maintenance and repair of electrically powered, gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, machines and vehicles.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs tune-ups, lubrication, oil and filter changes, adjust or changes belts and hoses on all vehicles.
  • Repairs a variety of problems including electrical systems, brakes, carburetors, engine and engine compression, clutch, transmission, injectors, differentials, pumps, muffler, hydraulic and power take-off operations.
  • Sharpens or replaces blades on grounds equipment.
  • Repairs all grounds equipment including snowplow equipment.
  • Knowledge of welding and fabrication is required.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of vehicles, carts, and equipment.
  • Performs inventory and requisition parts as required.
  • Tracks repairs and maintenance.
  • Assists with general maintenance.
  • Assists with general grounds work.
  • Operation of campus vehicles as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum Two years experience in vehicle repair and maintenance with 1 year of small engine repair. Must be able to troubleshoot, repair, replace, and install equipment from blueprints and schematics. Must be able to use hand tools, pneumatic tools, computer with excel or other database software, testing equipment, tire tools, press welders, and sanders.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals is essential. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence is essential. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization is essential.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Class A, B, C, or E Driver's License required.
