St. Charles Community College is seeking a full-time Cook in the Food Services Department who will be responsible for producing and serving a wide variety of complete meals, some of which require lengthy and elaborate preparation. The Cook is also responsible for set-ups, food preparations, cooking and serving from multiple locations, such as the grill, hot/cold service areas, grab-n-go, catering, and delivery aspects. Responsible for preparing and cooking distinctive and high quality food, planning menus, ordering supplies, ensuring profitability, and any item on the menu of a full-service restaurant as assigned.

Other duties:

  • Provide proper and safe preparation and storage of food products.
  • Provide proper and safe set-up and storage of serving products.
  • Provide a clean work area including eating utensils, dishware, prep and cooking utensils, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Provide cashiering and other retail services as assigned.
  • Prepare cold salads for deli and grill use; Slice and carve meats, cheeses, and produce, and garnish as needed for station set up.
  • Must have and maintain a current Missouri Driver's License.
  • Prepare and stock food product at service station per menu specifications as signed by Assistant Director of Food Services.
  • May assist other chefs, cooks, and pastry bakers.
  • As needed and assigned, shall perform duties such as: a wide range of food preparation; weigh and measure recipe ingredients; make salads and sandwiches; help prepare soups and sauces; clean, peel, and slice fruits and vegetables; prepare coffee; and slice and grind meat, poultry and seafood.
  • Greet customers, and prepare and serve food items per customer order and food service specifications, as assigned by Assistant Director of Food Services.
  • Break down and clean work station at end of shift and store food products properly.
  • Must observe all aspects of proper food service sanitation standards.
  • Must be able to operate basic kitchen preparations tools, including knives, peelers, slicer, oven, steamer, fryer, steam kettle, tilt braiser, and related food preparations appliances.

 

Starting Compensation: $9.50 to $10.93 per hour, commensurate with experience

Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. At times, hours will vary, depending on evening and weekend catering events.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Minimum one year experience or training in cold food preparation, basic kitchen work, with a knowledge of food service cleanliness and sanitation standards. Must possess a comprehensive working knowledge of cooking techniques, cook-and-hold and cook-and-chill techniques, display cooking, and catering set-up and service. Must be able to obtain and maintain ServSafe Food Service Certification. Must have and maintain a current Missouri Driver's License.
