St. Charles Community College is located just west of St. Louis, nestled in the heart of growing St. Charles County. Established in 1986, SCC is a public, comprehensive two-year community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields. SCC also provides workforce training and community-based personal and professional development as well as cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities.

We are seeking a full-time Marketing Specialist who will be instrumental in creating compelling and engaging content for a variety of audiences through digital, social and traditional platforms. The position requires a passion for storytelling, content creation and distribution of content through various channels. It involves writing for social media, news media, print and digital advertising, promotions and publications. Involves writing/updating content for the website, basic graphic design, managing e-newsletters and student e-messaging, project management, event planning/promotion and direct customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages the College's presence on various social networking sites, especially Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Snapchat. Creates social media content calendar, schedules photo shoots for social media purposes, creates new content, repurposes current content, monitors social media activity, records, analyzes and shares quarterly analytics, manages cross-departmental social media content managers group, researches current social media/content trends and best practices and recommends strategy for use of the networks.
  • Writes media news releases and makes contacts with the media. Maintains accuracy of media distribution list.
  • Conducts student, faculty and staff interviews for content creation purposes.
  • Develops paid and unpaid social media advertising campaigns under the advisement of the Director of Marketing and Communications.
  • Writes copy for digital and traditional SCC publications, including content for the SCC website.
  • Aids in the copy development for posters, flyers, ads and brochures for various College departments.
  • Writes and manages internal newsletters The Weekly SCCoop, CougarNews, and Chuck and contribute to the writing of the President's Report to the Board.
  • Writes student/faculty testimonial stories to be used in multiple venues (web, advertising, newsletters, news releases, etc.)
  • Writes and manages an annual high school and college advertising program. Executes social media paid ad plan.
  • Manages e-mail blast marketing campaign for prospective students and first-time freshmen. Provides regular analytic reports to the director for review.
  • Manages the Scooter McCougar mascot PR program (in cooperation with Admissions).
  • Photographs special events, check-passings, and other events on campus, if needed. Assists in the organization of official SCC photo shoots and SCC photo booth.
  • Works with Athletics Department on dissemination of news and development of athletic guides.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field, or two years experience in communications, journalism, or public relations required. Basic knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Microsoft Office software required; dotCMS content management system experience a plus. Exceptional writing skills and grammar use. An understanding and passion for social media, as well as a deep understanding of Facebook and Instagram analytics. Fluent in use of both Mac and PC platforms.  Detail oriented, with excellent organization, time management and interpersonal skills. Frequent contact with general public.
