St. Charles Community College is looking for a work study student to assist in the Online Learning Department.

Purpose/Role within Organization: The Federal Work Study program offers part-time employment opportunities to eligible students, as determined by FAFSA results. FWS jobs should, to the maximum extent possible, complement and reinforce a student's educational program or career goals. In addition to hours worked within the campus department, students are also required to participate in community service hours.

Duties/Responsibilities: The Student Online Learning Assistant works primarily with the Director of Online Learning and will assist the instructional designer and LMS specialist as needed. The Online Learning Department is responsible for troubleshooting Canvas issues for faculty, training faculty for Canvas tools, instructional technology, and online course design. They also assist faculty with designing online and hybrid courses to meet quality standards and using successful online design practice and pedagogy. The Student Online Learning Assistant will report to the Director of Online Learning. Assist Director of Online Learning with administrative tasksMaintain database of online faculty and approved online coursesAssist with basic questions about using CanvasAssist LMS Specialist with Canvas tasksAssist instructional designer with appointments and administrative tasksOther tasks as assigned

Community Service Requirement: Average of 2 hours of community service hours per month. Work with supervisor to come up with activities that serve the community as a whole.


Qualifications/Requirements: Dependability and accuracy; Ability to work well with others Microsoft Office 2016/365 experience; Canvas experience; Web design and digital media experience is a plus.


Hours/Work Schedule: 12-15 hours per week, schedule can vary depending office needs and student's course schedule.


Evaluation Procedures: Final grades will be evaluated at the end of each term. Students not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress will lose eligibility to participate in the Federal Work-Study Program.

Evaluation Schedule: The end of each term.


Length of Employment: 7/1/18-12/15/18. Renewal of the position for subsequent semesters will depend upon Satisfactory Academic Progress and the availability of program funds.


Rate of Pay: $8/hour

Procedures Determining Rates of Pay: Rates of pay are determined by SCC Board of Trustees.
