St. Charles Community College is seeking a full-time Athletics Director who will be responsible for providing leadership, supervision and mentoring of the Athletic Department staff. The Director of Athletics will administer the college's intercollegiate athletic program and serve as the College Center Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Effectively manages the day-to-day operations and issues of the department. Ensures the proper training and education of head coaches including safety, regulations, Title IX and college policies.
  • Writes and annually updates coaches manual.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of games, officials, facilities and transportation.
  • Develops, maintains and balances the annual budget for all sports in conjunction with the head coaches. Oversees the purchase of major equipment by following College policy and procedures.
  • Serves as the overseer of the college athletic fields and spaces, including managing the field maintenance budget. Works in consultation with the Grounds Department to ensure the playability and safety of the outdoor practice and playing fields. Ensures strong communications between Athletics and Grounds departments.
  • Represents the College at all Midwest Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) and Region XVI National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) athletic meetings. May serve on boards to support these organizations.
  • Responsible for any and all audits of St. Charles Community College conducted by NJCAA.
  • Acts as one, along with the President and Vice President for Marketing and Student Life, of the three points of contact between St. Charles Community College and NJCAA.
  • Responsible for the completion of NJCAA online eligibility for all intercollegiate athletic teams. Responsible for the management of the NJCAA MVP online site.
  • Serves as compliance office on behalf of the Athletic Department including preparation and completion of NJCAA, NCAA and NAIA forms.
  • Responsible for preparation and completion of Equity in Athletics Report and Higher Education Reporting Act to satisfy Department of Education and Title IX requirements.
  • Maintains appropriate professional memberships to keep abreast of developing trends and regulations associated with intercollegiate athletics and facilities.
  • Works in coordination with the contracted Athletic Trainer to ensure the safety of student athletes.
  • Serves as the spokesperson to the rest of the academic community and the local media on behalf of athletics.
  • Works with teams to ensure an end-of-the-season recognition event is held.
  • Establishes strong intercollegiate athletic support in the community.
  • Enhances internal communication with numerous departments of the College:
    • Works closely with the International Support Services Department to ensure proper documentation required by NJCAA for participation in athletics by international students.
    • Works with Academic Advising Department to ensure success of student athletes.
    • To promote the Athletic Program, works with Vice President of Marketing and Student Life and President's office to provide annual athletic team event to kick off the academic and athletic year.
    • Works with Marketing and Communications to promote the Athletic Program internally and externally.
  • Develops external relationships with area high schools, media, and businesses.
  • Provides effective leadership for the department staff.
  • Plans, organizes, and oversees fundraising efforts to augment the funding that is available to the athletic program.
  • Prepares the unit plan for Athletic Department and participates in the development of the
  • Marketing and Student Life Area Plan.
  • Assists with College-wide initiatives.
  • Prepares and certifies time sheets and absence reports which affect departmental staffing. Prepares staff evaluations for feedback.
  • Problem-solves issues and challenges as they occur.
  • College Center Coordination:
    • Coordinates with other departments and community representatives regarding activities/schedules in activity rooms, gym and fitness center, coordinates inventory and maintenance of sports and fitness equipment; communicates with equipment technicians for maintenance and repair.
    • Supervises and ensures training of College Center staff. Includes certification of time sheets and absence reports and hiring, training and evaluation of staff.
    • Works collaboratively with PHE department chair to ensure training of College Center staff and users of equipment.
    • Enforces College Center rules and policies.
  • Other duties, as assigned.



  • Provides consistent leadership for the Athletic Department. Performs normal supervisory functions:  trains; instructs; assigns work to departmental personnel; recommends transfers, promotions, wage increases, terminations; arranges for additional help as needed for overtime; explains and enforces college policies, safety rules, and regulations and evaluates performance.
  • Supervises the head coaches for baseball, softball, and women's and men's soccer and the Athletic Department Secretary employing good relations practices according to college policy.
  • Directly supervises 3-5 employees in the College Center. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the College policy.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving conflicts.

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years athletic director experience at the collegiate level is essential. Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations and experience with intercollegiate athletics is preferred.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of sports in a community college setting is essential. This position requires strong interpersonal/human relations skills and must possess verbal and written communication skills. This position must possess planning and organizational skills along with report preparation and supervisory skills. This position must have the ability to learn and apply institutional policies and procedures, ability to maintain high level of confidentiality, professionalism and trustworthiness. This position must have the ability operate personal computer with various software programs, the ability to compose and edit a variety of memoranda or letters and the ability to attend to details and handle multiple tasks.
